Within the wide world of BMX today, only a select handful of people know the true meaning of the phrase, "Double Ditch Weekend!" Coming from the New Mexican city of Albuquerque it upholds a reputation as one of the wildest and out of control jams this side of the Mississippi! Originally hosted and spawned from master mind of Adam Deamer aka Roll Mexican, this specific jam originally brought together the southwestern scenes of Southern Texas, Arizona and of course kids from all over New Mexico came to join the fun and get down! Over the years we have had riders come from as far as Florida and New York, making this weekend impact coast to coast...

The ditch itself has been in BMX for almost 20 years, making and taking names in its career. It has even earned the nickname, 'concussion ditch' by locals and to those dozens of teams who have visited the ditch over the years it has created an allure throughout time to be one of the go to spots in the city!

This year marks the 15th Anniversary of Double Ditch, since the original jam took place back in 2003! Over the time of 15 years this gathering has brought together a citywide  BMX culture and helped a whole community of riders join forces in the name of bikes and mayhem! I am always in awe to see people come out year after year and witness the support we receive for our scene and our friends from all over the country!

We took the approach of, less is more this year... No additives to the ditch like we usually do, no ramps, no ledges or rails just high speed gaps, traditional wall rides and sub boxes. Creating the ditch platform for an old school vibe hinging on creativity and burliness pulled the energy out of everyone for a great time! Friends new and old came to watch, support and ride with us to bring us back to the roots, just fun with your friends... In a ditch!

Thanks to all the original OG's who keep this blood flowing, we all know with time some people come and go but the real ones impact never goes away! Vidial Vigil, Gil Montya, Nate Richter, Pesk1, Sam Adams, Mario Carrasco, EP Eddy, Matt Gannon, Dorian Blanco, Adam Deamer, Pat & Adrian Vigil, Alex Jaquez aka TRIP, Wario, Robbie Owen, Clay Johnson, Zuka Hacker and so many more, you know who you are!

This Jam was hosted in Loving Memory of Pat Vigil and Alex Jaquez!

Thanks to all the riders and friends who came out to show love and a special thanks to the sponsors for helping with prizes for all the participants!

Earlier this year I was able to jump on a trip with Alex Donnachie and the rest of the BSD crew up in San Fransisco for the first time. In the midst of filming and all the good times, I caught up with Alex D. to see what makes his signature 'ALVX' so sleek and so Squeaky? Most would agree and say that Alex's bike riding is very precise and calculated, so you know that his signature ride is just the same! Check out his (now, not so current) set up which is sleek, yet vibrant with technique and progression.

The mystery of where the team name 'BSD' is derived from and what it stands for is a legendary fact that only a select few are privileged enough to know and the team won't divulge the info even with the most enticing incentives!? That little unknown fact creates this type of illusion to BSD and their team, a tightly knit secrecy, if you will... It was an honor to be able to work with these guys and take a hefty 10 day long road trip in the van throughout spots in San Francisco and San Jose and anywhere in between! This trip didn't get me any closer to knowing what BSD means but it definitely gave me the ability to get closer to knowing some of the best riders out today.

Hitting the road with Alex Donnachie, Liam Zingbergs, David Grant, Nick Castillo and Dan Paley with Dave Sowerby behind the lens was nothing short of a great time. Riding bikes and seeing the city sights with an amazing crew is something that won't ever get old, check out the photos and video below to get a closer look at the whole story.

There is always something to be appreciated in a job well done and we strive within ourselves to take our daily tasks and turn them into a drive towards the dreams we have in life. The world presents us with an endless array of options and forks in the road to find our way to 'success'... Well, in this case you can take three decades of determination, friends, family, fun and BMX and roll it all into a bike company named S&M Bikes. A chunk of the BMX community took this past weekend to honor and recognize the 30th year of operation for Chris Moeller and S&M. Having started this company at age 16, in 1987, Chris has built and established a thriving entity that helps to create a lifestyle, around a global culture of creativity, and the thirst to be an individual amongst this ever-evolving BMX world.

There was definitely no shortage of BMX, hot dogs, beer, laughs, dust and antics to fill up one Saturday out in Riverside, California at the Milestone MX track. The jumps were built and the stage was set for a celebration suited for some of our culture's rowdiest participants, and it all went down in the name of S&M. Cheers!

Throughout the past 8 months or so I have been undertaking a lot of projects while working for DIG, and I have to say working alongside Jeff Wescott has been one of the highlights of this journey so far. Jeff and I have been traveling together to new places we haven't been to before, as well as working together in our own separate hometowns. The ideas we have seem to flow together seamlessly and what more could you ask for? In fact I hadn't even met Jeff before this interview idea spawned around the time of Texas Toast in 2014 and getting to know Jeff well enough to work with him through a project like this was definitely a make or break type of deal. But, if you know Jeff, then you know he is one awesome person and always has a smile on his face ready to take on the day. He's conscientious of his overall health and that approach can be seen through his signature products. With his new 'COMB' line from Mutiny, he embraces the characteristics of the honey comb, from strength and durability, to the color choice of the frame. Welcome to the Jeff Wescott interview.

In today's BMX world there is an increasingly rare breed of riders that make it to 'pro level' via roots that are based in BMX racing. You may be surprised to learn that Lahsaan Kobza is one of that rare breed and pretty much a seasoned BMX veteran at the ripe young age of 23. He began riding when he was only 8 years old and began racing one year later in 1999. Lahsaan continued to race up until 2008 during which time he branched out into 'freestyle' and found a new love for riding street. Growing up in Nebraska wasn't the best for expanding his riding talents but between there San Diego, California and his current residence of Phoenix Arizona, he has been able to rise to the position that he wouldn't even have imagined when first clipped-in back at the starting gate all those years ago. Lahsaan presents a solid example of what can come your way from longevity in BMX through determination and a good spirit. There's no doubt Mr. Kobza will continue to grow as a rider and pump out more great bike riding with a smile.

Well, If I have to think back to my first interaction with young Johnny Atencio, I'd have to say he was some what of a "Shoo fly, don't bother me" type of kid! But the difference between human beings and your average house fly is the fact that Johnny's life expectancy is much greater than that of a winged nuisance... So through his genuine little kid ways of becoming more confident with his riding, he also in turn, grew into a much older, much more mature personality which soon enough couldn't be denied by myself, his fellow bike riders and eventually the eyes of the Shadowand Subrosa family! In just 8 months or so Johnny has managed to put together this amazing video between his high school schedule and his first job, all filmed in his hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico with the exception of a short trip to Denver, this video is sure not to disappoint! The best part about this kid is at the young age of 16 he has his sights set at a high level of progression and more than anything else, he's enjoying every moment.

Always In Progress: Catching up with Derek Dorame

www.DIGBMX.com

Coming from the small town of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Derek Dorame grew up like most kids do, making friends going to school and getting to know what you care for in life. Well, from a very young age Derek knew what he wanted, to stay true to his Native American roots and focus on what he loves the most, BMX. Having the advantage of living in the state capital city, that produced the state's very first concrete skatepark, way before prefab parks and plastic pegs were even a thought. Adobe brick isn't the best thing to learn how to grind on but given the determination to become the rider he is today, Derek has used all of his resources quite well i'd say. Check out the latest from the New Mex tech wizard as he tells us more about what got him started in BMX and why he is still doing it to this very day.
